- managing your time, confidence and resilience -

  • Course description

In 18 years of working with postgraduates, research staff and academics I’ve never met one who said they have enough time to manage their workload. Why are we so busy we have to keep running, just to stay in touch with our research? Getting the right things done properly can be difficult when we also consider the limited time available and the challenges that require confident responses, rather than avoidance and procrastination.

This highly interactive workshop introduces practical tools and approaches to review how you spend your time and energy, allowing you to make conscious decisions and motivate yourself to respond to challenges. We add in methods for overcoming procrastination and developing confidence and apply these to real situations you bring along. If you make the time to attend and practice what we cover, you’ll soon be managing yourself, your motivation and your PhD effectively.

  • Objectives - By the end of these two days, you will have:
  1. Practiced with tools to set compelling goals and motivate yourself
  2. Assessed your personal values and professional priorities
  3. Used tools to understand and adjust how you allocate your time and energy
  4. Turned tips and tricks of time management into personalised actions
  5. Explored your reasons for procrastination and methods to get back into action
  6. Examined how thinking can help and undermine confidence and resilience
  7. Derived ways to develop confidence and resilience
  8. Been introduced to a simple model for addressing challenging situations

Applied all these to real situations from your research
