Winterschool at VU Amsterdam: DEVELOPING THEORIES ABOUT THE SOCIAL WORLD: A DYNAMIC SYSTEMS PERSPECTIVE

Societies are driven by social interactions. The goal of social sciences is to gain understanding of the social world, its mechanisms, its drivers, and its complexity. The study of psychology and sociology, and its application to various settings creates valuable insights, whether they are about personality, interpersonal relationships, organizations, or leadership in organizations. But can we say with certainty that we understand how the social world works? Do our theories provide satisfactory explanations? Do these theories offer sufficient practical applications? In this course we will explore a systems approach to explaining social interaction, highlighting its practical applications. The dynamic systems perspective offers a novel perspective that enriches our understanding of social phenomena.
