Difference day: Woman breaking the news

    What is Difference Day?

In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3rd as the World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness on the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This idea gave rise to Difference Day, an annual event initiated by Rector Caroline Pauwels as a collaboration between the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Erasmushogeschool Brussel, IHECS, BOZAR, the Evens Foundation, imec, and other partners. The aim is to honour people and organisations that make a difference in protecting and promoting these important values.

The central theme of Difference Day 2021 is "Women breaking the news".

Participate in the Students' Speakers Corner 2021

VUB and EhB offer you this opportunity to express your critical views on the current affairs around women breaking the news. Share your idea, opinion, criticism... with a 1,5 minute speech during this 7th edition of Difference Day.

This year, we will work with messages pre-recorded at the VUB recording studio (AV studios) or speeches that you record yourself. We will provide a master class, coaching and guidance on how to format and prepare your speech.
