    The road to Canvas: the VUB-administration step-by-step

    The start of a new academic year requires a lot of administration on your part. We have outlined everything for you and will try to give you a step-by-step guide on the process and the various e-tools. Destination: Canvas!

    First some tips:

    • You need to log in to your Canvas account with your Office 365 account (firstname.surname@vub.be) and NetID password.
    • Your courses will appear automatically 48 hours after you have registered them in the Student Self Service.
    • Do not google Canvas, but enter through the homepage of STUDENT.VUB to find 'the right Canvas'.
    • If you can log in into Canvas, but your courses have not yet been organised, you can look them up through 'all courses'. Check the Canvas manual.

    Here the process step by step:

    For new VUB students


    (e.g. first bachelor student, BUT ALSO a student who returns to the VUB after a few years away)

    1) You need to register online by using our registration application OR you need make an appointment with the enrolment department. 
        => No more appointments available? Register by using our registration application.

    2) Once your enrolment has been completed you will receive an e-mail with the necessary details to activate your NetID and VUB email.

        => Was your last registration at the VUB one year or more ago? Contact Student Information concerning your NetID.

    Concerning e-mail:
        => Was your enrolment completed before 2 October? You will receive your e-mail through Webmail until you receive an e-mail that your account has been migrated to Office 365.
        => Was your enrolment completed after 2 October? Your Office 365 account has been created automatically (no need to activate webmail).

    3) You need to use your NetID to log into the Student Self Service in order to register your courses.

    4) 48 hours after you have registered your courses they will appear in your digital learning platform Canvas. You can consult study material and messages from your professor here.

    For current VUB students


    (e.g. 2nd to 3rd Bachelor students)

    1) You complete your re-enrolment in the Student Self Service.

    2) When your re-enrolment has been completed you log in to the Student Self Service with your NetID to register your courses.

    3) 48 hours after you have registered your courses they will appear in your digital learning platform Canvas. You can consult study material and messages from your professor here.

    For current VUB student who are starting a new programme

    (e.g. student who has finished a preparatory programme and wants to start a master)

    1) You apply for your new programme in the Student Self Service.

    2) When your new enrolment has been completed you log in to the Student Self Service with your NetID to register your courses.

    3) 48 hours after you have registered your courses they will appear in your digital learning platform Canvas. You can consult study material and messages from your professor here.
