    Resume LAB

    Monday, 3 June, 2019 - 09:30
    Campus: Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus
    Building B
    Career Center

    6 SECONDS

    That is the time recruiters in an eye-tracking study dedicated to evaluating a resume.

    When you want to explore what your career options are outside of academia, your 30-something page academic CV won’t cut it. A leaner version is in order.

    To help you put your academic resume on a diet, the VUB Career Center is launching Resume LAB: a re-occurring interactive workshop to help you translate your academic skillset to a non-academic resume. This initiative will be organized at both campuses.

    During a Resume LAB session you will:

    •Learn to think from the perspective of a recruiter;
    •Get an idea of what a non-academic resume can look like;
    •Become aware of the skills that you have been developing as a researcher;
    •Be encouraged to think in terms of ambitions, achievements, impact, strengths;
    •Learn how to ‘talk the lingo’ of the industry/sector you are interested in;
    •Realize that the effort of tailoring your story pays off;
    •Be strengthened in your experimenting mindset;
    •Receive feedback from your peers and career coordinator.

    What to bring?

    •Your academic CV
    •Your non-academic resume (if you have one)
    •Tools to work on your resume (computer, pen & paper…)
    •Working attitude (because it really is intended to be a workshop)
