    Summer Camp

Every year, the Confucius Institute organises a Summer Camp for its members in during the summer holidays (usually in July). On this page, you can find more information about the summer camp as it is organised throughout the year and enrol at the bottom of the page. Be sure to register and get personal updates through email about new developments and the announcement of info sessions.

The summer camp to China is an ideal opportunity to explore some of the biggest cities on the mainland, experience the ancient Chinese culture with your eyes,  ears and mouth and to meet kind and sincere Chinese people who are probably even more interested in you then you are in them!

If you already attended a Chinese language course, the Chinese summer camp is the place-to-be to train your skills and discover that Chinese isn't that difficult after all. If you took a Chinese open course, the summer camp is the door to a world full of strange and wonderful circumstances that can be retraced to current politics or ancient history.

The summer camp is coorganised with universities in China. This usually means that accommodation is foreseen by the university. Yes, that means you will most likely sleep in Chinese (luxury) student dorms. The daily schedule consists of language courses, cultural activities (Tai Chi, calligraphy, Kung Fu, Chinese opera, ...) and sight-seeing (the Chinese wall, the forbidden palace, Chinese gardens, the Panda Breeding Resort, ...)

The location of the summer camp is decided by the number of participants. In order to visit the Chinese partners of the VUB Confucius Institute, a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 participants is required. The partners of the VUB Confucius Institute are Renmin University of China in Beijing and Sichuan University in Chengdu. In that case, the summer camp usually visits both cities In the past, the summer camp was co-organised with the ULB Confucius Institute to reach the required number of participants. In that case, the summer camp goes to Shanghai at East China Normal University.

    Practical Info

The registration for the summer camp is open until Sunday 31 March 2019 at 23:59. The registration may be closed earlier if the maximum number of participants (20 persons) is reached.

An information session will be organised in May when the programme is in the final stage of organisation. The date of this information session is yet to be announced.

Hanban, the financial organisation behind the Confucius Institute, covers the greater part of local expenses in China for all participants. This includes your stay at the university dorms, tuition fees for the courses, local group transport for trips and between cities, entrance fees related to cultural visits.

Other costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the participant. This includes the booking and cost of the flight tickets to and from China and traveling insurance. Also additional cultural visits during the summer camp on the request of participants not included in the programme are not funded Hanban.
