    Roadmap course registration

You must register your courses online in the Student SelfService. You do this after the opening date for course registration and within the deadlines. Log in with your VUB NetID. Then follow these 10 steps.

    Step 1: Tab 'Manage classes'

On the homepage click on the link or icon ‘Manage classes

Are you enrolled in two programmes?

! Are you enrolled in two programmes?

If you are enrolled in two programmes, e.g. the preparatory programme and the master, please choose the programme for which you want to register your courses first in the next screen. Once finished, you can register courses for your other programme.

Then you can follow the remaining steps.

Now you’re at the tab ‘View my classes’. There’s currently no courses you’ve registered yet. Click on the menu on the left on ‘Enroll by My Requirements’.

Step 2: ‘Enroll by my Requirements’.

Here you will see an overview of your complete programme and the graduation requirements applicable.

! Are you enrolled in two bachelor programmes OR two master programmes OR two advanced master programmes?

In that case on this page you will have both your programmes listed. You can continue to follow the action plan.

You’ll see the programme you’ve applied for. When you select your programme or one of the modules, you see which courses you have to follow.

Example: You’re enrolled in a Bachelor Linguistics & Literary Studies. When you select this, you see an overview of the required courses. In this example you’ll see 4 modules (example in Dutch):

Go back to the overview and click on one of the modules to see which courses you have to register.

Attention: courses that are in the course list twice have different codes. One code ends with the letter 'r' the other code ends with the letter 'w':

    • 'R' stands for regular student - student who follows classes in daytime
    • 'W' stands for working student - student who follows classes in the evening

Choose the course with the code that is applicable to you. If you are a regular student (i.e. you follow daytime classes), and select a course that is intended for a working student (i.e. following evening classes), you will get an error message at the end of the process.

You can find the catalog codes of your own courses easily yourself. On this page, under 'Study Programme', click "Programmes 20XX-20XX" > look for your programme > scroll down to "academic plans" and select your plan > now you see an overview of all courses > select the right course and you can see the code!

Example: There’s 2 courses ‘Introduction variation linguistics’. If you’re a regular student, you have to select the course ending on ‘R’. If you’re a working student, select the course ending on ‘W’.

Next, select the first course you want to register.

    Step 3: Course detail

You now see detailed information of the course you selected.

In the top right corner, select ‘Next’ and choose the right academic year.

At ‘Class Selection’, click on the course you want to register.

Step 4: Class search and enroll

The first screen you see, is the selected course. Click in the right top corner on ‘Next’ to go to the next step.

Now you're in Step 2 of 3: review Class Preferences. Click on ‘Accept’ in the top right corner.

If you have been granted a permission number to enroll in this class please enter it on this page. If not, you can just leave it blank.

Click on ‘Submit’ in the top right corner. You need to confirm once again that you’d like to submit.

! Before you confirm, check to see if:

    • all courses have the code applicable to you. If you’re a regular student, the codes of the courses should end on ‘R’. If you’re a working student, the codes of the courses, should end on ‘W’.
    • you really want to register the course.

If everything is fine, click ‘Yes’ to submit.

You’ll get a confirmation: the course has been successfully registered.

Step 5: Check your registered courses

Click on the menu on the left on the tab ‘View my classes’. There’s an overview of all classes you’ve registered so far.

If you accidentally enrolled in a wrong course, you can drop the course (within the deadlines that apply to course registration) by following navigation: Main Menu > Manage Classes > Drop classes.

    Double check

If you’d like to doublecheck the courses you’ve registered for, that’s certainly possible!

On the main menu on SelfService, you click on ‘Manage Classes’. Choose the third tab: ‘Enroll by My Requirements’.

Example: You’re enrolled in a Bachelor Linguistics & Literary Studies. When you select this, you see an overview of the required courses. In this example you’ll see 4 modules (example in Dutch):

Select one of the modules to see which courses you’ve registered

Now you can check the status of your course.
